Farm to Cafeteria Program

Over the next two years, Progressive Action for the Common Good (PACG) will be focusing on efforts to implement the Farm to Cafeteria program within Quad City area schools.

Farm to Cafeteria programs create a partnership between local farmers and community institutions -- to everyone's benefit. Local farmers benefit from increased business; the community benefits from the dollars kept in the region; and our schoolchildren, at ever-increasing risk of obesity, will benefit from the taste, freshness, and nutrients of local produce. When fresh, local food is served at school, it has the potential to improve the health and educational prospects of our children - a move that would reap long-term savings and lasting benefits.

The movement for healthy, fresh, locally grown foods is growing rapidly. PACG is currently in the process of networking with other groups within Iowa who have already implemented the FTC program. Recently, Augustana College in Illinois announced they too will implement this wonderful 'buy fresh, buy local' program.
